Extra Space Storage

May. 25 2023

More than 1.6 billion square feet are dedicated to self-storage in the United States. Extra Space Storage is the second largest U.S. operator of self-storage facilities in 41 states and the District of Columbia. However, as big as it is, it recognizes the people and partnerships that make it successful.

How Extra Space Storage Champions Women

The company recognizes child care benefits for working Utah women are important, so it founded WeeCare to help employees find proper and affordable childcare providers. It also offers paid pregnancy and parental leave for its employees. Extra Space Storage supports pay equity efforts with a yearly analysis where discrepancies are noted and corrections are discussed.

One of the company’s most significant benefits for working women in Utah is a safe place to feel supported. In 2021 it launched several Employee Resource Groups for working women and men, including the Women Employee Resource Group. At the launch, the group chair, McKenzy MacKay, hoped the group would “create an environment where women feel like there is a place for them to have a voice.” The group is open to all employees.

Why Supporting Women Is Important to Extra Space Storage

The company is built on core values: Integrity, Excellence, Passion, Teamwork, and Innovation. One of these values states, “We trust each other, we rely on each other, and we empower each other.” As Extra Space Storage supports women through resource groups, equal pay efforts, or by offering flexible work for Utah women, it empowers employees, and the entire company is better.
