Utah Valley University (UVU) is committed to student success as an open-admission institution. While the university offers more than 250 degree options to more than 43,000 students, its class sizes average 23 students. Small class sizes allow staff to focus on individuals and prepare students for careers and post-education life. The university also ensures the women they employ have opportunities to advance and gain leadership skills.
How Utah Valley University Champions Women
UVU champions women, whether they are students or employees. Dr. Astrid S. Tuminez, the university’s president, was born in a farming village in the Philippines. She achieved success through hard work and a quality education. Now, she is a shining example that women can accomplish anything.
Beyond showing what’s possible, UVU helps faculty and staff that identify as women advance their careers by offering participation in the Utah Women in Higher Education Network (UWHEN). This program is dedicated to employee development and supports personal and professional growth through peer and mentor sponsorships. UWHEN also encourages and fosters leadership abilities and opportunities for women. The group holds professional development events and creates a culture of collective empowerment that helps build equity. This supportive environment promotes employee success and attracts diverse, high-performing professionals.
Why Supporting Women Is Important to Utah Valley University
The core values of UVU are encouraging excellence, critical thinking, creativity, and integrity. It is no surprise supporting women is also important to the higher education institution. In addition to UWHEN, the university provides paid family leave and tuition reimbursement for full-time employees, their spouses, and dependents. To date, 52% of students using tuition waivers are women. Providing opportunities for women and their families to increase their education builds a professionally competent workforce and encourages individuals to be good stewards.
