SUCCESS STORY
A Family Tradition of Selling World-Class Melons
For Greg Vetere, his wife Rita and their three daughters, planting over 100,000 melon plants is a family affair that is close to their hearts. Vetere and his wife taught their daughters the value of a hard day’s work and a strong work ethic, and they hope to instill those same values in their youngest grandchild.
Vetere Melons is a family-owned farm on 500 acres supplying a variety of melons, including watermelons, cantaloupes, crenshaw, honeydew and others. The farm’s mouth-watering melons are available in northern Utah markets and produce stands.
According to Vetere, “We still carry on the family tradition — sell quality, only the best, and word of mouth will do the rest.”
His world-class melons can be found at Associated Food grocery stores in northern Utah, Price and Castle Dale. Vetere hopes customers will have the same mouth-watering experience, whether they purchase a Vetere melon at a grocery store, or one of his curbside stands.
Vetere melons are also popular among tourists with the same travelers stopping by his stands six, eight and even 10 times. “We get people from all over the country, all over the world,” Vetere adds. “We have customers from Italy, Russia and from down the road. Some shoppers will buy 30 or 40 watermelons to take back to their families.”
For Vetere, it’s all about how a melon tastes.
